Experience
I have over ten years of experience tutoring and teaching geography, planning, sociology, and architecture at high school, undergraduate, and postgraduate levels. I have developed a unique teaching approach that integrates theoretical knowledge and real-world applications. As a geographer and planner, I aim to instil a deep understanding of the transformative power of urban and physical environments in my students. This is reflected in my teaching experiences, such as rebranding the ARCH7091 Urbanism course into Tacit Urbanism at the University of Queensland, which connected students to interdisciplinary networks and real-world urban dynamics. My teaching philosophy centres around fostering active, critical engagement by connecting geographical concepts to students' daily experiences. In courses like GEOG1000 (Human Settlements), I use case studies, video learning and field trips to ensure that students can directly observe and analyse the environments we discuss in the classroom. This hands-on approach helps students see the importance of geography as an academic subject and a tool for navigating and improving the world around them. As a tutor, I also prioritise inclusivity and adaptability, ensuring that all students, regardless of background, are empowered to contribute to my learning program and succeed. My experience in built environment research, consulting, and teaching, particularly in interdisciplinary settings, has allowed me to create collaborative and supportive environments where students feel engaged and inspired.
