I have over 35 years of experience teaching at public and private schools. I have also been a private tutor for the past decade, enabling me to forge meaningful connections with students in both 1-on-1 environments and group settings. I have concentrated on STEM subjects throughout my career, teaching science and maths to students in Years 8-10 and chemistry to students in Years 11 and 12. The secret to being a good educator is finding a way to make your students care about what you're teaching. For example, cooking is a common hobby that makes a great gateway into chemistry concepts, while sports scores are endlessly useful in explaining mathematics to young learners. I also try to create a learning environment where questions are encouraged, ensuring that students understand that it's okay to raise your hand if you don't grasp the material right away.
