EducationBachelor of Mechanical Engineering, 2005.
Thesis - Fluid Mechanics
Masters of Divinity, 2012.
Currently studying a Master of Arts (Theology) completing 2018.
Completed a number of Solidworks Design and Analysis certificates and competencies.
ExperienceQualified Mechanical Engineer '05, having worked in oil/gas, mining, automotive, custom design, project management and HVAC. Experienced tutor since 2009.
I'm easy going, relatable and a big on encouraging my students to give their best in everything and tackle that which seems beyond them. I aim to make every session enjoyable rather than being seen as a chore. I give parents a debrief on progress, assigned work and specific areas to be focused on at the end of each session.
Previous students have gone from struggling with (and hating) some subjects to study (and enjoy!) engineering, vet medicine, law and the sciences. Some even completing double degrees and entering promising careers locally and internationally.
My interests are differential calculus and fluid mechanics. I worked as a mechanical design and project engineer for a number of years in materials, HVAC, water treatment, oil and gas, consulting and mining fields.
I have been an international speaker at youth camps, led a large baptist church for a number of years and written many essays on history, religion and theology.
Currently I am only able to accept students on a school Term-based (or longer) arrangement - not once-off appointments. I only tutor school students, not university students; unless it is regarding Solidworks 3D CAD or FEA. I am currently a full-time carer for my young toddler and have a number of tutoring and other commitments; thus my flexibility/availability is somewhat limited- contact me and we will try to work something out.
I focus on fostering a love of learning through tackling challenges and the growth of critical thinking in my students so that they approach all areas of life with a positive and determined outlook.
HobbiesMy hobbies include spending time with my daughter and wife, playing the guitar, exercise and sports, reading, and relaxing with a good coffee. I'm a logic/spatial-based person, and find that a great advantage in tutoring, as most students generally need the content related to them in a way that they may understand - be it visually or conceptually.
I have often given additional aid to my students through email and diagrams - they have found this a great help especially around hectic study times and there is need for clarity in solving a problem which might be causing some difficulty.
