Hi there, my name is Jack! I'm an MD1 at University of Queensland and hold an Honours of clinical Neurosurgery degree from Monash with a tutoring focus on the GAMSAT medical school exam. I have sat the GAMSAT multiple times and developed a refined and easy to learn approach that anyone can deploy for their essays. ○ Scoring top percentile marks in the written communication component of the GAMSAT (section II), I have successfully taught my process to dozens of exam sitters. In addition my essays consistently score in the top band of ACER's Online Written Communication Tool for Section II (Range 75-100). ○ I've worked alongside students of all culture and tertiary degree backgrounds working towards tailoring my teachings to my individual student's needs. ○ Writing essays for the GAMSAT can seem daunting at first. How does one prepare and successfully execute writing two essays in an hour that are of a high calibre and offer unique and interesting insight, all of which must be on a topic given to you moments before? ○ My approach utilises a malleable framework of core ideas that can be taken to and applied to any essay topic. In this way, we can reduce much of the uncertainty that accompanies this exam, as opposed to conjuring up unique ideas for every single imaginable topic. How you can I help as a tutor? ○ Beginning your learning towards bettering your essays for the GAMSAT, I prefer to assess at least one piece of your writing and establish with you, what your areas of concern are. ○ I break my teaching into the main areas of The Essay Framework, Core Concept Development, Quote Interpretation, Planning, Structure. ○ Following this, I introduce my essay framework, where I will then equip you with the skills and resources to create and perfect your own core concept that can be applied to every essay that follows. My goal here is to reduce your workload, increase your confidence in understanding a unique take and working to deploy it effectively on exam day. ○ We will also cover quote and theme interpretation and how to ensure your understanding of them produces an effective 'thesis summary'. I believe this is a critical area where many students fall down and leave many marks on the table due to poor interpretation of the discussion material. ○ Further, I will also ensure you become competent in developing effective, quick and transferable essay planning and structure skills. Structure is a key component of the GAMSAT essay and sticking to a proven method is key to mitigating the near unavoidable anxiety that comes on exam day, ensuring your essay produces logical and progressing points of discussion. ○ You will also receive my best advice in regards to resources that have proven helpful in addition to preparation tactics.
